I have a lot of computer friends, some are from usenet, but most are from IRC. My friends on the net are nearly all deceptively mild looking. You can't tell from their eyes the wild hearts they carry.
Quagga, an extinct equine from the southern tip of Africa, joined the afterlife on December 21, 2000. I am fervently hoping that she looks after me from there. She was a loyal and good friend, and I miss her.
Bird can be found in the IRC channel #30plus. Bird flies, no surprise. Recently he flew away fromhis old job runing radio telescopes--the VLA--for the NRAO. He has recentlyreturned to the east coast to teach, and they are lucky to have him.
I do love scientists of every kind, because of the way their minds work. DrQuill writes poetry, and started out as Dr. of physical chemistry. He is now an intellectual property lawyer, and his column in the library of Writers Nethovel is a valuable resource to writers. Hnt is another scientist, who also writes poetry and prose. It is among the writers that you will find the other class of my personal heartthrobs.
I play poetry chicken with some of them, and we can usuallybe found Sundays in on irc playing the game in one channel or another(recently it seems to be #write on efnet, or #poetry on the undernet). Hnt, Bluemonk, nolathree, Robin, ananke, DreamBard, and others all from time to time have come to work/play at Poetry Chicken. I was trying to get pbyaga to play, but never managed. I did get Plaintext to join in for a while, and he seemed to like it quite well.
A poor usenet feed has marooned me from some other favorite people of mine in the usenet groups soc.singles, and soc.singles.moderated. If you see them, say hello for me, and for those who appreciate a good hug, Julie is world class. Stef is a writer from the soc.singles.moderated crowd, and I recommend her homepage highly. Piglet like me, is another language lover, her home page is still elsewhere, but can be reached from this site. The s.s.m crowd in general does a fair bit of writing, and the newsgroup/s are interesting to read.
Zorch and I were hatchlings together, in the misty long ago time, he called me a caribou, I've never forgotten.
